The famous Noah's Ark Restaurant opened in 1967 near Interstate 70 in St. Charles. A zoo of fiberglass animals greeted guests, including an elephant, giraffes and even a mechanical hippo, along with Noah standing on the deck overlooking the parking lot. Local families and weary travelers alike gathered in the Ark's dining room (or the Ravens Roost cocktail lounge) for its famous clam chowder, its extensive salad bar and other popular dishes. Noah's Ark Restaurant closed in 2000 and the Ark was torn down several years later.
