The mere mention of Dutchland Dairy conjures up delicious memories for tens of thousands of Milwaukeean’s. Launched in 1927, Dutchland Dairy stores included a retail shop that carried milk, cheese, ice cream and custard, as well as a full-service restaurant. With some 17 locations around Milwaukee, popular Dutchland Dairy dishes included fried chicken, shrimp and fish. Sadly, the dairy stores closed in the mid-1970s, but fans will always remember the Dutchland Dairy song that ended, “More than a dairy, more than a dairy store.”

10 years of Dutchland Dairy

I worked at DD from 1964-1974 minus 2 years military. I managed Atkinson stores and others and finished as manager on 76th and Bluemound. I am still friends with Bill Lucas, Bob Kosky, and Tom Rasmussen..I am in California now, but play sheepshead on line while "zooming " with the Milwaukee guys and Bill in AZ. Even though ther hours weren't the best, it was a great experience.

Sounds like a great place to work. Thanks for sharing!

Kitchen 1.10 a hour and cook 1.60 per hour

You forgot the breading of onion rings and on Mondays kitchen help had to break down the fountain to clean all utensils and on Tuesdays had to replace the grease in FF fryers and Chicken fryers. I worked at the store on Appleton and Congress from 67-70 it was a great place to work. Everyone that work there were real close and every Saturday night we would hook up to go midnight bowling at BOWLERO. Some were on dates but the ones that we’re working that night usually went and be join by the ones not working.

Thanks for the review!

Custard

Besides working the kitchen, stocking the cooler with hundred of milks, breading chickens for chicken fries, slicing hams for Sunday ham & rolls , I made hundreds of gallons of their Custard of vanilla, chocolate & strawberry. It was a great place to work with great people. A neat restaurant, good eats, great Friday Lake Perch Fish fires. All for a whopping $ 1.15 an hour 🤣😂Mike
