The Flaming Pit was a popular steakhouse chain in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Based in St. Louis, the chain grew quickly and had many locations around Missouri and the United States, including Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado and Florida. The Flaming Pit menu featured many staples of mid-20th century dining, including sirloin steaks, fried chicken, fried shrimp and the famous Steerburger. For kids, there was the choice of a small Steerburger or a Frontier Frank. It appears the embers of the Flaming Pit chain lingered into the 21st century before eventually dying out.
