The Denver Avalanche were an early Major Indoor Soccer League team that brought fast-paced indoor soccer to McNichols Sports Arena from 1980 to 1982. The Avalanche made the playoffs in their second season, giving Denver fans a taste of postseason excitement. Financial troubles soon caught up with the club, however, and the franchise eventually relocated to Tacoma, becoming the Tacoma Stars.
