For a brief three years between 1968 through 1971, the Fillmore East featured the biggest acts in rock music at the time. Some of these artists included Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Kinks, Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead. This venue was owned by rock promoter Bill Graham and was located in what is now the East Village neighborhood in Manhattan in New York City. Numerous live albums were recorded here due to the excellent acoustics. This venue was a companion to the Fillmore Auditorium and the Fillmore West in San Francisco. Changes in the music industry led to its closing.
