The Houston Hurricane brought fast-paced professional soccer to the Astrodome from 1978 to 1980, giving Texas fans a taste of the growing soccer craze. The team roared back from a rough first season to capture its division title in 1979 with an impressive 22–8 record. But despite the on-field excitement, the Hurricane couldn’t survive the NASL’s financial troubles and folded in 1980.
