The Ivanhoe Restaurant was a legendary Chicago dining and entertainment destination at 3000 N. Clark Street, known for its distinctive castle-like building. Opened in 1920, it began as a Prohibition-era speakeasy before becoming a medieval-themed restaurant featuring elaborate décor, dancing, entertainment, and a basement bar called The Catacombs. A theater was added in the 1960s, expanding the venue into a popular dinner-and-theater destination. The Ivanhoe eventually closed, but its unusual architecture and colorful history remain a memorable part of Chicago’s past.
