J&R Music World began in 1971 as a modest 500 sq ft storefront at 23 Park Row in Manhattan. Over the next four decades, it expanded across nearly an entire city block, growing into a one-stop mega store for vinyl, electronics, computers, cameras—you name it. Despite its legendary status and devoted staff, the rise of online giants and big-box competition ultimately led to J&R’s closure in April 2014.
