Joe's Bakery was a beloved establishment in Lawrence, KS. Founded in 1952 by Joe and Ramona Smith, the bakery quickly became popular with the students at KU who loved their sandwiches, iced sugar cookies and hot doughnuts. They sold the bakery to their son in 1981, he later sold it in 2005 and it closed for good in 2007. You can still find a piece of this beloved bakery in the Kansas Memorial Union, where the neon sign hangs proudly.l.
