The Kansas City Blades were a popular minor-league hockey team that played at Kemper Arena from 1990 to 2001. They quickly became a fan favorite, winning the Turner Cup championship in 1992 as the top team in the International Hockey League. The Blades were affiliated with the San Jose Sharks for much of the 1990s and helped develop numerous future NHL players. When the IHL folded in 2001, the Blades also ceased operations, ending one of Kansas City’s most memorable eras of professional hockey.
