KMET 94.7 was one of Los Angeles’ most influential rock radio stations, known as “The Mighty Met.” Beginning its legendary freeform rock format in the late 1960s, it gave DJs unusual freedom to choose music and helped shape the album-rock sound of the era. Personalities such as Jim Ladd, B. Mitchel Reed, Cynthia Fox, and Dr. Demento became closely associated with the station. KMET signed off in 1987, when the frequency became KTWV “The Wave,” but its influence on Los Angeles rock radio remains legendary.
