Metroplex opened its doors in 1983 on Marietta Street and quickly carved out a fierce reputation as the Southeast’s premier hardcore and punk club. With its brick-walled interior, chicken-wire–guarded bar, and loft-style balcony where crowd surfing was practically a feature, it exuded gritty, all-ages energy . Bands like Bad Brains, Suicidal Tendencies, Circle Jerks, and even early Red Hot Chili Peppers rocked its sticky floors, while the Butthole Surfers famously lived in the space for a week in 1988.
