The Milwaukee Road is a famous American railway system that operated for more than a century in the nation’s heartland. Officially known as the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, the Milwaukee Road was famous for its speed records, its cross country passenger service aboard its famed Hiawatha fleet of trains. Generations of travelers made memories aboard these trains. Alas, the railroad industry hit hard times in the 1960s and 1970s and the Milwaukee Road was sold, chopped up and eventually the last remaining portion was taken over by Soo Line in 1985.

Only a logo decal - not fired into the ceramic

While I'm impressed with the accuracy of the logo artwork the fact it's only an applied decal concerns me as to the longevity of the logo art on the coffee mug surface. How long it will hold up to repeated washings - hand, and dishwasher - remains to be seen. Also, the mug walls are very thin compared to others in my kitchen - just another victim of cost-cutting "shrink-flation" we're all experiencing these days I suppose.

Hi Dan,

We truly appreciate your honest feedback — and your keen eye for vintage logo accuracy! We agree: the Milwaukee Road logo deserves to roll down the tracks forever (even if it’s on a coffee mug and not a train).

You're right — the decal is applied rather than kiln-fired. While it holds up pretty well through many washes (we’ve got a few in rotation ourselves), we understand your concerns and will definitely pass them along to our production team.

Thanks again for supporting small business and helping us keep the past alive — even if sometimes the mugs feel a little more 2020s than 1950s. We hope the mug still adds a little railroad charm to your coffee routine!

Warm regards,
The Bygone Brand Crew ☕️
