Officially known as the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, the Milwaukee Road was famous for its speed records, its cross country passenger service aboard its famed Hiawatha fleet of trains. Generations of travelers made memories aboard these trains. Alas, the railroad industry hit hard times in the 1960s and 1970s and the Milwaukee Road was sold, chopped up and eventually the last remaining portion was taken over by Soo Line in 1985.
