The first Musicland store opened in 1955 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and continued to be headquartered there throughout its tenure as a business. The Musicland Entertainment Group also included Sam Goody, Suncoast Motion Pictures Company, and Media Play. Musicland stores expanded quickly with the rise of the popularity of malls in the US. Musicland stores were eventually converted to Sam Goody stores, although some did retain their name until the early 2000’s. Best Buy bought the Musicland Group in 2001, but it didn’t work out well and Musicland was gone by 2006.
