The New Jersey Rockets were a short-lived Major Indoor Soccer League team that played at the newly opened Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford during the 1981–82 season. Their inaugural home game drew an impressive 17,625 fans, but the excitement was difficult to sustain as the team struggled on the field. The Rockets finished 17–27, missing the playoffs, and filed for bankruptcy shortly after the season ended.
