Northwest Plaza was an open shopping mall center that opened in 1963 and was the largest mall in the world at that time. The anchors included Famous-Barr, JCPenney, and Sears. The mall was enclosed and expanded in 1989. Crime and maintenance issues caused the decline of this once great place. Northwest Plaza was eventually demolished and redeveloped.
