O'Neil's Department Store was a downtown Akron favorite from 1877 to 1989, starting as a small dry goods shop before growing into a grand six-story flagship by 1928. Acquired by May Department Stores in 1912, it remained a retail cornerstone until its downtown store closed in 1989.
