Red Goose Shoes started out selling shoes to pioneer families heading west in 1869. The name was originally a combination of the founders' names, but an easier name was needed when advertising came into play. Goose came from a translation of one of the founder's names and red came from the 1904 World's Fair when one of the stock boys painted the goose red. Red Goose Shoes had unique advertising, store displays, and promotions. One popular promotion was the Golden Egg prize. Red Goose Shoes was bought by the International Shoe Company, who eventually dropped it.
