The Rockford Lightning basketball team was part of the Continental Basketball Association. They were the oldest team in the CBA by first starting out as the Lancaster Red Roses. The Red Roses became the Lancaster Lightning before then moving to Rockford to become the Rockford Lightning. Their home arena was the Metro Centre in downtown Rockford, IL. The Lightning ceased operations in 2006 after the owner could not find new investors to buy the team.
