For half a century, when kids on Madison's east side wanted to go rollerskating, they headed to the Rollerdrome. First opened in 1949 on Packers Avenue, it moved to its iconic location on North Stoughton Road in 1966, and for the next three decades, kids skated, reverse-skated and even disco skated (briefly) to an array of popular music and flashing, colored lights. Sadly, with the dawning of the new century, the Rollerdrome's time had come and gone, but the sweet memories of those roller rink nights remain.
