Rosemont Horizon opened with a Fleetwood Mac concert on May 14, 1980. Rosemont’s founding mayor. Donald E. Stephens, wanted to grow the village by building a place that would draw the crowds. His vision was to build a stadium on land that was over the horizon of the Higgins Road curve by O’Hare. A long standing event at Rosemont was the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus. Although rock concerts brought the biggest crowds, Rosemont also hosted monster truck shows, wrestling, boxing, and family friendly events. Ice was installed for celebrity ice shows like Disney on Ice. The Chicago Wolves hockey team made Rosemont their home in 1994. Naming rights were sold to Allstate Insurance in 1999.
