Shea Stadium located in Flushing Meadows, was the home of the Mets for 45 seasons (1964-2008). It also was the home of the Jets football team from 1964 to 1983. It was named for William Shea, who is credited for bringing National League baseball back to New York after the Dodgers and Giants left. It was demolished in 2009 for parking for Citi Field, its replacement.
