The Stanley Theater went from a live music venue for the big bands of the 1930's and 40's to a movie house in the 1940's to the 1970's and then back to hosting concerts again for the popular rock music of the 1960's to the 1980's. The Stanley Theater was once named the number one auditorium in the U.S. by Billboard Magazine. Today, the building is a performing arts center for the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet.
