The Bayou in Washington, D.C., was a legendary music venue and nightclub nestled under Georgetown’s Whitehurst Freeway, enchanting crowds from 1953 until its final curtain in 1999. Originally launching as a Dixieland jazz spot before switching to rock in the mid-1960s, the Bayou hosted icons like Count Basie and Woody Herman before becoming the East Coast debut stage for acts such as U2, Dire Straits, Kiss, and Foreigner.
