The Pub was a Madison institution on State Street. For decades it was a somewhat seedy bar that seemed to appeal to just about everyone — frat boys and bikers, townies and East Coasters. It was known for its big glass windows looking directly out onto the sidewalk where originally groups of tipsy guys would hold up hand-written signs rating the women that walked by. Soon, the ladies got in on the game, and did the same thing, rating the men that walked by. The Pub closed in 2010 after 70 years in business.
